How does the litl connect to the internet?

The litl connects to the internet wherever you have Wi-Fi access.

Turning the litl on and off

To turn on your litl: press and hold the power button on the right side of the hinge until you hear a beep.

To turn off the litl: hold down the power button for a few seconds, you will see the screen shrink down to a dot and go black, then release.

To restart: turn off, wait a few seconds, then turn on.

My litl screen has gone dark and won't start, what gives?

The litl needs power. Plug in the power cord and restart. Everything should be how you last left it.

I don't see my wireless network on the list. How do I find it?

It is likely that you have a hidden network. A hidden network does not broadcast its existence, usually for security reasons. If this is the case, you will need to enter its name specifically so the litl can find it. Then click on "Connect to hidden network," near the bottom of the wireless settings screen, and enter the name of the network when prompted. You should then be on your way. If you are still having problems you may want to restart your modem and router or contact your network administrator.

I'm having other problems connecting to the internet but I know my connection is working fine. What now?

If you are seeing the message "Cannot reach litl.com" or having any additional problems, please contact asklitl@litl.com or call us at (800) 878-0900 and we will get that fixed for you. You may also check litl.com to check the status of our network.

What is linking and unlinking?

If you have more than one litl, linking means that they will have the same channels (black cards), and in the future there will be cool intercom features and useful channels for your family. The alarm clock settings and the web cards, however, are unique to each litl. You can name each litl in the settings card.
Want to unlink?
When you want a litl to be separated from the other litls in your household, you can unlink it in the settings card. When you restart the litl and it asks if you have another litl, click no to keep it unlinked. If you want to relink it, click "yes" and enter the "Magic Words" that you can get in the Settings section from one of your other litls.

What's the difference between family and friends?

litl "family" is the group of people all using your litl or linked litls. Be sure to add (and verify) the names and emails of each family member. This way, other litl users can find and invite your family to become litl friends.
litl "friends" are other litl users outside your family with whom you can share cards and channels. To find friends, search by name or email in the Family and Friends card, then send an invitation with a personal message.

Why do you need email addresses for my family members?

Names and email addresses for your family members allow other litl users to find and invite your family to become litl friends.

What are channels?

The litl uses several types of channels (in card view as black cards) to display feeds from websites as slideshows and article readers. You can share these channels with your litl friends, or if you have multiple linked litls in your house, they will have the same channels.
Special litl Channels
- We have made special channels for weather, time, facebook, and movies. You can add these to your card view through the card catalog.
News Channels
- News channels take feeds from blogs and news sites and present headlines and article summaries to you. To make a news channel, use a web card to go to the website, then in the right hand side of the toolbar, click add channel. Once you have your news channel, you have the option of going back to the web page, sharing your channel, or viewing articles or pictures as a slideshow.
Photo Channels
- Photo channels turn your online photos from flickr, Picasa, SmugMug, and Shutterfly into fun slideshows. To make a photo channel, open a white web card to the stream, set, or album, and click add channel in the toolbar. You can also make a photo channel under album view in Mediawall.

What is the card catalog?

The card catalog is a collection of cards you can add to your litl. Here you can find special litl channels, news channels, and photo channels that we think you might find useful.

What can I do in easel mode?

Easel mode is an exciting way to view your litl channels. Turn your litl into easel mode and use the wheel and the go button to change channels and browse headlines or photos. Easel mode works great with news and photo channels, Mediawall, Youtube, Vimeo, and Hulu videos.

Which of my cards will work in easel mode?

All of your channel cards (black cards) and mediawall work in easel mode. You can watch videos in easel mode (such as from hulu or youtube) by first making the video full screen in laptop mode, then flipping it into an easel.

How do I search?

The default search engine on the litl is google.com. The first way to search is to click on the "Search the Web" box on the top/right of your screen. After you have entered your search criteria, hit the return key (you can also click on the magnifying glass icon). Your results page will open before your eyes. You may also open a "New Web Card" (hint: has a big plus sign on it). The litl will open a blank web page and you can use the search icon at the top of the page.

How do I browse the web?

In card view, click on the gray "New Web Card" (it has a big plus sign on it) to open a blank web page. Then, type in a web address, click on one of your most visited sites, or click on the search icon for a Google search.

How do I leave a card?

To go back to card view, use the litl button on your screen or the litl key on the keyboard. You can also delete the card by click on the "X" in the upper right.

Can I see the text bigger? Or maybe refresh the page?

In full view, move the arrow to the toolbar and click "more" to access the find feature, change the text size, refresh the page, and more.

How do I download things off the web?

The litl is primarily for use online.

What kind of security does the litl use for the web?

The litl's operating system has many security features built into the system to protect you and your information.

Saving Passwords
The litl allows you to save passwords for websites. If you don't want to save your passwords or if you want to clear them off your litl, you can do that in the Settings section under "Web." Note that passwords are only saved on the litl you are using, not across multiple litls.
Web Pop-ups
The litl automatically blocks all web pop-ups, but gives you the option of viewing pop-ups for certain websites. For websites with pop-ups, a bubble will appear and you can select your options. To clear all of the exceptions you've made, use the "Web" tab in the Settings card.

How do I bookmark?

Leaving white cards open on your card screen are the current version of bookmarking. There are many choices for websites that save your bookmarks online, such as Delicious.com or even Yahoo.com.

Does the litl support shortcut keys for browsing the web?

Yes it does. Some of the more handy key commands when you are in full page view are:

alt-tab: display and choose from the different webcards you have open
ctrl-c: copy selected text to the keyboard
ctrl-v: paste
ctrl-k: search the web
ctrl-n: new window
Spacebar- scrolls down
Arrow Keys - scroll up and down on a webpage

How do I use the litl with my television?

It is very easy to use your litl with your television, simply plug an HDMI cable into your litl and your television—your television will mirror everything on your litl.
